British Lacrosse, the national coordinating body for lacrosse in Great Britain welcomed four new independent non-executive directors to its board, effective June 1, 2022.
Incorporated in 2020, British Lacrosse is responsible for the preparation, selection and performance of the men’s and women’s Great Britain lacrosse squads and officials, and for their participation in specific international tournaments. In addition, it represents the interests of Great Britain lacrosse and encourages and supports the promotion and advancement of the sport at home and abroad.
Thanks to the excellent coaching, performance and support environments that have been developed over the last two years, British Lacrosse men’s and women’s teams are already excelling on the international stage in the new Sixes format of the game. They won the first-ever EuroLax Championships Cup in Portugal in April and the men recently returned from the Lacrosse Nations Cup in Germany undefeated. Hopes are high for medals for both teams at The World Games in the US in July.
Commenting on the appointments, Sallie Barker, British Lacrosse Chair said “It’s been a challenging and fast-paced journey to get us to the point of being able to send men’s and women’s teams to The World Games this July.
“As a start-up entity, we have built a brand, created visibility through different communications channels, put in place the foundations for governance to meet the Code for Sports Governance, and begun to explore commercial partnerships and fund-raising opportunities. Now it’s time to move up a level on all these dimensions.
“Each of the directors we are appointing brings relevant skills and experience that will really boost and accelerate our efforts, enabling our athletes to pursue their ambitions to represent Great Britain on the world stage. We are delighted to have them onboard.”
The new independent non-executive directors are:
Rob Arnott, Shay Boyd, Matthew Swales and Charlie Wells
