Men´s & Women’s Olympic Sixes Teams

About Us

British Lacrosse (BL) is responsible for Olympic 6s lacrosse in Great Britain. We represent and support elite performance across the men’s and women’s national teams, and lead the sport’s ambitions towards Olympic success. With lacrosse now confirmed for LA28, British Lacrosse is focused on building world-class programmes capable of delivering success on the international stage.

This is an exciting moment for lacrosse in Britain — and an opportunity for coaches with exceptional experience to shape both the men’s and women’s Olympic Sixes teams on its journey to the LA2028 Olympic Games.  These roles will be pivotal in realising BLs medal winning targets over the coming years, including European & World Championships, and the LA2028 Olympic Games.

The Opportunity

British Lacrosse is seeking to appoint a number of new coaching positions for the Men’s & Women’s Olympic Sixes Team through to the end of the 2028 Olympic cycle. Reporting to the Coaching Leadership Team (CLT) and the Performance Director, the successful candidates will support the technical, tactical, and cultural development of the team, and ensure sustained performance at major international competitions.

The roles require strong coaching skills, expertise in specific performance areas and athlete skills development, and a proven ability to coach both individuals independently and in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coaching Leadership: Provide coaching for the Men’s and / or Women´s Olympic Sixes programme.  To collaborate with the High Performance Coaching Team, and performance support staff (sports science, medicine, analysis) to optimise player health, welfare, and performance.  And to collaborate with the wider coaching cohort, to ensure the delivery of the BL Performance Roadmap and performance priorities.
  • Performance Environments: To contribute to the development of a consistent performance identity aligned with British Lacrosse values.  To support players and staff in performance transitions, whilst remaining accountable to World Class standards.  To inspire through world class leadership.
  • World Class 6s: To lead the understanding and development of the 6s game at a global level.  To support the High Performance Coaching Team (HPCT) and all other staff in establishing a clear vision and direction in the BL “6s Identity”, built around our style of play, core values, performance strengths and culture.
  • Expertise: To lead on coaching design and delivery for your area of expertise in the program. Collaborate with the HPCT on delivering the performance plan, and deliver progress, to world class standards, on your specialist area with the athlete cohort.

Key Duties:

  • To help facilitate the design and delivery of domestic and international training, international competition preparation, and on-field performance, for the agreed performance development area.
  • To work with and support, where required, the High-Performance Coaching Team on all aspects of campaign planning and performance roadmap delivery.
  • Assist in managing player selection, depth chart development, and ongoing talent identification.
  • Represent British Lacrosse domestically and internationally, upholding the organisation’s standards of professionalism and integrity.

Person Specifications

Our ideal candidate is someone with world class coaching experience, a proven track record of delivering in key performance areas, and who has a clear vision for what it takes to build world class performances in said areas .  Someone who understands what it takes to win at the highest level of team sports.  Is data driven yet appreciates the subtleties of team and individual athlete empowerment, and possesses excellent soft skills.  Who is approachable yet not afraid to challenge or be challenged.  A leader, who is calm under pressure,  .

Specifically, we are looking for coaches with expertise in the following areas:

  • Individual Player Skill Development
  • Game Management
  • Offensive strategy
  • Defensive Strategy
  • Shooting
  • Goalkeeping
  • 1v1 Offensive & Defensive Skills
  • Working with development team athletes
  • Coaching Analytics

Essential:

  • Significant coaching experience at elite international and/or professional level in lacrosse (Sixes experience desirable).
  • Proven success in delivering programs to high-performance teams and supporting developing athletes, and athletes transitioning into high performance environments.
  • World Class knowledge of international lacrosse and the Sixes format.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, anti-doping, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and international travel.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within an Olympic or multi-sport environment.
  • Understanding of British sporting structures and performance pathways.
  • Coaching qualifications recognised by the ICF, ICCE or World Lacrosse

 Contract & Remuneration

  • Term: To be agreed based on performance program requirements (subject to Olympic cycle review).
  • Time Commitment: Part-time contract, with peak periods around international windows, camps, training events and tournaments.
  • Location: UK based is desirable but not essential, with travel across the UK and internationally.
  • Remuneration: Volunteer based, with international competition expenses paid.
