British Lacrosse would like to congratulate the Women’s Sixes Team who returned home from The World Games 2025 in Chengdu with a 5th place finish. The team performed well both on and off the pitch in the face of tough competition from the worlds best 6s teams, and can be proud of their response in the face of difficult conditions. The World Games was a valuable step on our Olympic journey, being the only multisport event we will face prior to LA28. With valuable lessons learned and a renewed sense of purpose for the future, the event has given us a great springboard for future success.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Ailsa Stott, the squad delivered performances that built on the strong foundation of 6s experience set over the last few years.
Ailsa, who is also the Head Coach of Scotland Women’s field team, took over the helm of the 6s program in April and guided the team through their final preparations and their 3rd World Games experience in China. British Lacrosse would like to recognise the outstanding commitment and dedication Ailsa has shown to not only British Lacrosse, but our athletes and the wider lacrosse game.
Extreme temperatures in China ruled the day, as BL set their stall with a commanding win in their opening game vs hosts China. A close fought loss to Canada followed, and a final defeat to a resilient Japanese team saw the team fail to progress to the semi-final stages. A 5th place match win against the Czech Republic rounded out the tournament.
Chris Russell, British Lacrosse’s Performance Lead states:
The World Games in the long run will ultimately have been a positive experience for us. Whilst the results were not as we might have hoped, we have a clear direction forward and plenty to work on over the next few years as we continue to build towards Olympic qualification.Chengdu provided a unique set of conditions and I’m extremely proud of how our players and coaches responded. Under Ailsa’s guidance, we embodied our “One Team” mentality both on and off the pitch. And I’m excited for the future.
We would also like to say thank you to the wonderful group of dedicated staff who continue to support our athletes across their Olympic journey. And the families, friends and supporters whose unwavering support continues to stoke the fires to push harder and aim higher.
