The women’s training squad has been selected following a robust process, in line with the Selection Policy of British Lacrosse.
The year ahead is a very important one for the GB women’s sixes programme. The inaugural European Sixes Championships in Portugal in March and the World Games in China in August give us a great opportunity to establish our credentials as genuine medal prospects for the LA28 Olympics. Our results could have a significant influence on the levels of support we receive from UK. Funding agencies and sponsors/commercial partners. To help us be successful in 24/25 and to develop the GB team culture we recognise the need to retain a core of experienced sixes players in the GB squad.
Our year begins with participation in two super sixes events in October. As a result we have taken the decision not to include in this initial GB sixes training squad any injured (recovering) players or any players who are involved in the U20 & Box World Championships about to take place. However, we will be keeping a close watch on those events and intend to invite the best performing players to our Nov/January training with a view to potentially adding them to our training squad. We also may invite individual players on an ad hoc basis to different training events throughout the season for a mutually developmental opportunity.
Competition for places in the GB Sixes team is incredibly tough. We see this as one of the drivers of high standards that will enable us to compete for medals at the top international level. A full review of both staff and playing squad will occur in Autumn 25 after the World Games, and that will be a real opportunity for any new or younger players to compete for a place in the squad.”
